Jewelry Care
We recommend that you take your diamond jewelry in to More Than Just Rings every six months to have your rings and jewelry professionally cleaned and polished. We will inspect any diamonds and their mountings to ensure they have not been chipped or knocked loose.
Prepare a Mild Liquid Detergent Soak
In a glass bowl or cup, fill with warm water and a small amount of mild liquid detergent. Next, place in the jewelry to be cleaned and let soak for about hour, this will break up any dirt, grime, or dead skin cells that build up on your jewelry. After soaking, take a soft toothbrush and gently scrub your jewelry. Afterward, rinse your jewelry with warm water. Dry with a lint free cloth that is clean.
Tip: Make sure to have a strainer or stopper in the sink when rinsing the jewelry to prevent accidental lose. An old tea strainer that closes when rinsing will be very useful with the smaller pieces or earrings and will help prevent dropping the jewelry when its slippery.
Soak with household Ammonia or Fantastic*
In a glass bowl or cup that contains a half-and-half mixture of either Ammonia or Fantastic, (not both), and cold water and place the jewelry to be cleaned inside to soak. Remove the jewelry after 30 minutes and gently brush the mounting with a small soft brush. Wash the jewelry in the mixture for a second time, rinse off with cold water and air-dry on a paper towel.
Tip: Save your old tooth brushes, they are perfect for using to clean jewelry with.
*Important!
Never use Ammonia or Fantastic on Emeralds, Opals, Pearls or other porous stones. This will ruin them. The use of Ammonia or Fantastic on these types of products can be harmful to their natural surfaces, finishes, or any treatments applied to these gemstones.
